Review of Rush (2013) by K-Bob H — 13 Dec 2014
Biopic of the dramatic motor racing rivalry between British driver James Hunt and Austrian Niki Lauda culminating in the 1976 Formula One World Drivers Championship.
The events of that era are just before the Prost/Senna rivalry that I grew up with and back in the seventies motor racing was a far more dangerous beast with countless deaths and serious injuries than today.
The film has excellent attention to detail. The cars look as they were complete with tobacco sponsorship!
Director Ron Howard best known for his helming of Apollo 13 certainly knows how to tell real life stories.
The cinematography, production design, casting of Chris Hemsworth as James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as Lauda is excellent.
The script is by James Bond film writer Peter Morgan and he continues his good work from Casino Royale here.
Even people not too fussed about modern day F1 will find some solace in this picture.
