Review of Rush (2013) by Valerie P — 05 Nov 2015
My husband is a huge F1 fan, and I was excited to watch this film with him. I expected some adrenaline-infused shots and a lot of revving engines; plus I was looking forward to spotting Natalie Dormer in her bit-part. I expected to be entertained. What I didn't expect, was to be swept up in a complex storyline about two highly successful, but completely opposite drivers; locked into fierce competition both on and off the track.
Hunt and Lauda raced in an era that offered little in terms of safety regulations, and accidents were tragically more common. This isn't just a film about race car driving; it's about character and willpower. There was plenty of dynamic to the script, and I was far from bored. The camera angles are absolutely amazing as well. It's a beautiful piece, and Ron Howard has every right to be proud. The Blu-ray offered plenty of bonus footage with background and interviews about the real-life people being portrayed in the film. I found many of those extras to be equally fascinating and most definitely worth a watch.
