Review of Rush (2013) by Tim R — 07 Nov 2015
I know very little about F1 racing, and by that, I mean I know nothing about it. Enter Rush, to tell the story of the rivalry turned friendship between James Hunt and Niki Lauda. Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl are great as Hunt and Lauda respectively, and they do a great job of showing the natural progression from enemies to friends.
Ron Howard does a great job at capturing the racing segments, never glorifying or playing up the races, always letting the raw power of the vehicles take over, which is a nice metaphor for the character's personalities.
It can feel a tad sluggish in the middle, especially when dealing with some of the relationship parts. Overall, Rush is one of the few examples of a good film based on true stories.
