Review of Rush (1999) by Maximiliano E — 15 Jan 2008
This movie is based on a true story - and a very interesting story - but not presented in a terribly interesting manner in this film. I tend to not mind films that are a bit on the slow side, but this one creeps along so slowly that, at times, it seems to go backwards.
Jennifer Jason Leigh does quite a good job portraying her under-cover-cop-becomes-a-drug-addict character, but I found Jason Partric to be too pretty, clean, trim, and buff to seem credible in his role as her similarly addicted partner.
Given the nature of the story and the characters within it, the film seemed a bit too sanitary for me - it seemed to lack grit. The bed was made, the table was clean, it just seemed a bit too...unlikely.
Again, the story is interesting...I may try to track down the book - written by the character played by Jennifer Jason Leigh.
