Review of Running with Scissors (2006) by Yinalí R — 25 Apr 2008
Strangely and depressingly beautiful movie that's funnier than it ought to be, it depicts the early home life of Augusten Burroughs as he moves between his mother's unfit home and his mother's shrink's weirdo family.
It had moments of profound brilliance, devastating pathos, and absolute hilarity, though it tries too hard for the same Anderson-charm as The Royal Tenenbaums and Rushmore. And Brian Cox is terrific in pretty much anything.
