Review of Running with Scissors (2006) by Emi S — 24 Jun 2008
If you love anything to do with the mentally ill, you will definitely adore this movie. I personally have a fascination with people with severe mental issues, and can't get enough of reading / viewing memoirs on the subject.
While I wouldn't necessarily say this movie is "about" anything more than someone's personal experiences, it moves very well, mostly because of the absolutely unbelievable things he experiences.
My one complaint is that the main actor does NOT look his age at all, though based on the events I think that was necessary. Also, the only person who seems to show any sort of aging at all is his mother, and it's definitely odd to watch her change and everyone else look exactly the same.
It's a bit long, but definitely an extremely enjoyable watch. Especially if you have a thing for the crazies.
