Review of Running with Scissors (2006) by Mike F — 22 Jul 2008
This film needed to decide whether it was a quirky comedy a la Wes Anderson or a serious drama, as it never really found a way to reconcile the two. It was far too heavy in its tone so that when you encountered the moments that should have been hilarious, you weren't quite sure what to make of them.
I understand that this is based on real events, but director Ryan Murphy needed to to do a better job blending the dramatic with the funny.
