The book was great. The movie: not so much. It felt very patchwork, and some of the casting decisions were pretty bad. Joseph Fiennes felt too big for his role as the adopted brother, and Paltrow as the .
.. wait for it ... cold, prudish blonde (please see 98% of her other movie roles) was so tired, I wanted to start shouting at the screen whenever she appeared on it. Finally, the lead actor, was just out of his element.
Maybe I had a hard time believing in his character because I was convinced that this actor played one of the hobbits in Lord of the Rings. Annette Bening, on the other hand, was very, very good.
