Review of Running with Scissors (2006) by Mikael K — 02 Sep 2009
The crazy memoir by Augusten Burroughs is one of the wildest books I've read so far, and this film adaptation manages to capture enough of that wildness to work. Anette Benign is so very good as an unstable mother who leaves her son in the care of an even more unstable family.
The structure of the film is slightly unfocused and scattered, but it works pretty well in the end. An honest, funny but genuine film well woth watching.
