Review of Running with Scissors (2006) by Kathryn K — 08 Jun 2012
Scissors is obviously a black comedy and it takes some sophistication on the part of an audience to understand and appreciate the genre....think of MAGIC CHRISTIAN, BREWSTER McCLOUD, HAROLD AND MAUDE and many others that were panned originally and found their audience eventually.
Reviewers (we have no critics in this country that I'm aware of) know little and pretend a sophistication that is based on insecurity -- consequently, they seldom like anything "out of the box".
(Where is the next Susan Sontag when we need him/her the most?) I really like SCISSORS -- did when it came out and just watched it again and find it holds up very well.
