Review of Runner Runner (2013) by Brett H — 16 Nov 2013
On the face of it Runner Runner has the potential to be a very clever film and from the first 15 minutes it certainly lives up to that expectation. The backdrop is stunning and it is a lifestyle anyone would a piece of.
However, this is just a drop in a very lethargic ocean with drawn out pieces of pointless dialogue, a dopey script and a bare minimum performance by Mr Affleck! I could have filmed his scenes very easily and done it for a small percentage of his extortionate salary.
The film is however saved by solid performances from Timberlake and Mackie. Gemma Arterton is the perfect eye candy within this world of money and the jet-set lifestyle. It is classy, clever at times but there was so much unanswered.
A bit more action would have been nice especially as this lifestyle clearly draws up many enemies he'll bent on having your head on a platter if you rip them off! Still worth a watch however but probably wait till the DVD is released and reduced.
