Review of Runner Runner (2013) by Joel M — 19 Apr 2014

This one was rented with a Redbox Free Rental email (which I ended up keeping for an additional day anyway. Damn you clever Redbox geniuses, you get me for an extra day almost every time!).

The previews for this looked great but unfortunately what could have been a great "student becomes the master" type plot, similar to movies like Rounders or Wall Street just falls flat. They should have had some more meat in this movie to make you like Timberlake more and really make Affleck more of a nasty bad guy. Not even any real romance going on with the possible love interest for Timberlake's character. It was short at 91 minutes and could have used about another 20 minutes of good character development to make it better. Good performances by Timberlake and Affleck, with a decent ending. Just everything happens kind of quick and is sort of unbelievable.
