Review of Run Ronnie Run (2002) by Rob H — 30 Mar 2008
So I was lucky enough to spent the majority of my spring break this year in Atlanta, or "Hotlanta" as Flavor Flav would say. I went their for a choir competition. The city itself is okay, but the good part of the trip was being able to watch a bunch of movies. A few of them I had already seen (Blades of Glory, Mean Girls, Borat, Austin Powers in Goldmember - which was really bad and I need to rerate - and Saving Silverman). I got to watch some new movies, so here are my reviews.
One of the movies I saw was Run Ronnie Run, which was on HDNET (our hotel had HD!) or some HD channel for that matter, and this movie was histerical. At first we thought we were cracking up because we were slap-happy, but we quoted the movie for the rest of the trip, so I have a feeling that it wasn't a one-time thing. David Cross is one of my favorite actors and his stand-up is hilarious and he's great in this movie. The best scene was easily Enigo Montoya singing "Y'All Are Brutalizing Me" from Ronnie Dobbs! The Musical. This was a great spoof of the South and of Hollywood. Cameos throughout are excellent, especially Jack Black's. Watch this! 8.5/10.
We watched I Am Legend on the bus-ride down to Atlanta and I was really unimpressed with it. The story didn't keep me interested, the writing was uninspired and I felt more for Sam the dog than for Will Smith's character - not a high compliment of Will Smith. In short, this is not a good movie, which is sad because it had great potential. 4.5/10.
Speaking of Will Smith, we watched I, Robot on the way home today and I liked this one. It didn't have a whole lot of substance - it was mostly flair - but it was, overall, a smart action movie with special effects that are not yet outdated. Will Smith plays the same character he always plays. Not a whole lot to say here. 6.5/10.
We also watched Casino Royale, but I fell asleep and, therefore, don't feel as if I can adequately rate it. The scenes I saw were fine.
