Review of Run Lola Run (1998) by Noah W — 09 Oct 2012
"What happened to you? Did you run here?" Har har. Mixed feelings on this one. First off, I don't understand all the praise. There's some sub-average acting, which is kinda weird for a foreign film (or maybe I've only been seeing the good ones).
The plot is a pretty dull and cliche. It does have a unique narrative style, but that could also be a major weakness: you can never be sure which storyline is the real one. So from that aspect alone, you'll either like it or you won't.
One of the pros is the soundtrack, thumping electronica that constantly sets the pace on chase...dammit, that rhymed, sorry. It's got Marie from The Bourne Identity, dunno if that's good or bad.
She had pink hair though, that was cool. It got a lot of buzz at Sundance and won the Audience Award, so congrats there. But the main reason I gave it a shot: it was directed by Tom Tykwer, who is co-directing Cloud Atlas alongside the Wachowski siblings.
And that, looks great.
