Review of Run Lola Run (1998) by David L — 04 Dec 2015
A smart and extremely entertaining existential trip. The soundtrack, movement, and artwork of the film are spectacular. Franka Potenta rules the movie with presence and a solid performance. The film taps into our most fundamental dream fuel: running (literally and figuratively) against a conspiring world to fix the crucial broken piece (in this case get the money her boyfriend lost in a fluke accident to pay off the serious drug dealers to whom he needs to deliver the loot).
Like our dreams there are telescopic insights into certain details (like a synopsis of people's lives Lola passes by in the street) and the possiblity of altering unwanted results. This broad reaching artistic gamble pays off in this idiosyncratic and aesthetically satisfying film.
