I'll be honest, I can't get excited about a Liam Neeson action film anymore despite whether I like the trailer or hate it. So going into this movie I knew what to expect and admittedly I did get a little more than I expected but still much of the same that we have seen before. Firstly this movie felt exactly the way I do about Neeson's recent action career; worn out. The movie tried to add as many new elements as it could to be different but it still didn't work. Quite a bit of this film was actually pretty boring, mainly from the first hour and 20 twenty minutes. The plot really didn't help, I wouldn't say it was confusing because I understood what was happening but the movie didn't give me much of a reason to need to follow what was happening. I thought the characters Jimmy and Mike Conlon were written pretty well and did have some believable chemistry, the downside is the only background we get on their relationship was that the father doesn't come around often and although it was alright I would have liked a little more. Ed Harris' character you knew practically nothing about regarding his relationship with Jimmy and there are only some subtle hints at their past but even then you can kind of understand their motivations. So the relationships were a little bit of a disappointment but were still watchable.

The performances were good at best, Neeson and Kinnaman were given the most to do in the film and they did a convincing job, whereas Ed Harris and Vincent D'onofrio aren't given a whole lot to do but they do make the most of it and also do a good job. The action was pretty entertaining even though up until the final 20 - 30 minutes there wasn't really much to get excited over anyway. But in the end if you have seen a Liam Neeson action film recently you more or less know what to expect, this film adds a little more on the character development side that you don't get to see in his other films like Taken 3. The plot was very uninteresting and just downright boring at times, but with some good action sequences and convincing character relationships this film wasn't as bad as it could have been. - 5.9.
