Review of Run All Night (2015) by Brett H — 12 Jun 2015
A bare-bones, old-school crime thriller that passes the grade with surprisingly deep acting from Liam Neeson and Ed Harris, an engaging story of redemption and some fun bursts of violence. The story is a bit reminiscent of the recent.
John Wick, with a former hitman having to come back into the game against former friends, and while John Wick is far superior; the angle that Neeson and Harris are best friends added serious dramatic heft! The film unfortunately is about 20 minutes too long and becomes repetitive with the same type of situation happening again and again but Neeson is always in top-form wrecking dudes left and right.
This film's best quality is its script with great, fleshed-out characters, but it's come out too late after we've had an onslaught of brainless, Neeson action films that this comes across as par for the course.
I enjoyed watching it and the ending was handled very well; but it's far from being memorable and I'm getting Liam fatigue.
