Review of Run All Night (2015) by Timothy C — 18 Mar 2015
Jaume Collet-Serra is back with a new Liam Neeson Vehicle for the pleasure of the fans. Stepping down from his usual Bryan mill character from Taken, Neeson plays a washed up mobster close to the ends, abandoned by all an haunted by the fasces of people he killed throughout his life.
His only friend and long time partner in crime, Shawn Maguire, seems to be the only remaining human connection the man has with the world. But all this is about to change when Shaun's son makes a bad deal with the wrong people and ends up running after the witness o his crimes, Jimmy's son who had the unfortunate bad luck to be around at that time.
The night is about to be long and rough, people get killed, chased and betrayed in this relentless action film that for once takes it time to unfold and tell the story. Very well shot and produced, the film is a little jewel of film noir transposed into modern day.
This is actually an excellent surprise compared to the recent disappointing Taken3. Jaume Collet-Serra has always had a great knack for film making and with this new opus he confirms his talent of storyteller in mainstream action films.
His style is visually interesting and narratively layered, portraying characters and situations in some interesting ways. Great flick.
