Review of Rumble Fish (1983) by Bart & — 07 Oct 2010
Francis Ford Coppola?s teen drama is a surreal mix of an Art house film blended together with faint traces of an old 50?s juvenile delinquent film and cinema photography found in a Film Noir movie, resulting in one of the most unique teen dramas ever made. The Plot line of this film involves street thug Rusty James (Matt Dillon) longing for the days of gang warfare were his older brother The Motorcycle Boy (Mickey Rourke) became a legend. When Motorcycle Boy returns, Rusty James tries to be like his brother while the Motorcycle Boy tries to live down his reputation.
The movie itself is shot in Black and White which as it turns out is how the Motorcycle boy sees life due to his colour blindness except for the odd spot colour of a few pet store fish. The whole atmosphere of the film is dictated by time lapses shots of the sky, shadows, and clocks hinting at how short life is. 8/10.
