Review of Rumble Fish (1983) by Hans K — 06 Jul 2011
'Rumble Fish' is a wild and surreal classic that did not deserve the negative reception it recieved when released. Matt Dillon gives a fearsome performance as the furious street hoodlum,'Rusty James' while Mickey Rourke also does a fantastic job portraying the humble but feared 'Motorcycle Boy'.
The film's surreal imagery conveys the theme of time passing faster than the film's characters realize, and the black and white photography is used to convey the Motorcycle Boy's color blindness and give the scenes of the environment a film noir feel, making 'Rumble Fish' an unusual but worthwhile experience, and one of Francis Ford Coppola's best and most unique works.
