Review of Rules of Engagement (2000) by Jj G — 18 Feb 2007
Good movie with actual levels of complexity and intelligence and a trio of strong performances from Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones, and Guy Pierce, and a tremendous battle scene as an opener (as you'd expect from William Friedkin).
It attempts to deal with very strong questions, but unfortunately, near the end, it deals with one of the questions in a shocking manner that's effective, but dumps out every other question and point raised in the film.
Additionally, the ending is unsatisfying. Still a pretty good film for the most part.
