Review of Rules of Engagement (2000) by Jason R — 23 Sep 2007
Tommy Lee Jones is a GODSEND!...just not in this particular movie. It's way too lenient in its presentation of a court drama. Again, realism does not exist at all in this movie. You have stereotypical and cliche parts and then u have the really farfetched.
The content has also come under scrutiny by members of the arab community for showing them in a negative light, which is unfortunately true, but I dont think it's enough to totally crucify the movie.
We have to remember that the middle east is indeed a dangerous place, even before 9/11. It wasnt the battle scenes or the poor content that got to me, but rather the drama itself and how flat all the dialogues were.
But because of solid acting and salvaging from Jones and Jackson, we're able to enjoy the movie a bit more than we should.
