Review of Ruby in Paradise (1993) by Jenniferlyng1 — 17 Jun 2021
The film Ruby in Paradise shows that director Victor Nunez was ahead of his time. With themes of independence, feminism, and hardship that are extremely prevalent today, he is able to create an inspirational and heartwarming depiction of a young woman’s first experience with independence.
The film follows Ruby Lee Gissing, played by Ashley Judd, as she travels to Panama City, Florida in order to change the course of her life. We see her grow through several seasons, and work to find happiness while dealing with her own inner thoughts and various hardships.
The story is beautifully told, with realistic dialogue and an ensemble cast that work together wonderfully. This film is timeless, and can be enjoyed by an audience of all ages.
