Review of Rubber (2010) by Gerald O — 07 Aug 2011
Rubber is a movie about a killer tire. Yes, you read that right, a car tire... that kills people, kills people by blowing them up with its mind. But that's only half of the story. The other half is some meta commentary about watching movies. It's as insane as it is ingenious.
Rubber can be summed up with two words: no reason. "In the Steven Spielberg movie, E.T., why is the alien brown? No reason." That's the entire point of the film. It's brilliant really.
Not everyone is going to like this film. It's crazy, unique, and odd, perhaps the one of the strangest films you will ever see. But it MUST be seen. It must be studied, analyzed, and dissected thoroughly. It tells us everything whilst telling us nothing at all.
