Review of Rubber (2010) by Sam N — 23 Jan 2012
This is a film about Robert the tire, infatuated with a beautiful dark haired girl, curious about the world around him, enjoys NASCAR....and loves to blow peoples heads up! Not sure why this concept sounded good to me, but I had to see it.
Although I did enjoy it and the film looked great, very creative shots and a clever way of giving a tire a mind of its own, the films flaw that annoyed me was how it set itself up. Telling you from the start that this film has no point at all.
Talking directly to the audience and then to continue remind you of this and what a clever idea it is, which to me verged on the point of being pretentious. This seemed out of place and unnecessary in a film about a psychotic rubber tire, it should have been more fun than it was.
