The premise of Rubber is inexplicitly bizarre, however saying that, to enjoy Rubber you just have to accept that an inanimate object such as a tire can and does have the ability to have cognitive thought, to move of its own accord and has the ability to destroy humans using telekinesis (after all we are expected to believe equally as fantastical story lines during mainstream cinema.

) It is a film that would probably work best as a short as it does get âtiresomeâ? (see what I did there) soon, but given that it is about a tire that can kill using its mind it does have an element of realism.

The camera angles and the subtle movement of the tire do make you believe that this is real. There is moment near the begging where the tire rolls over a empty water bottle and seems to enjoy the destruction.

It comes across as a powerful scene, something that could be given a deeper meaning than a tire rolling over an empty bottle. Its this kind of realism that is missing from certain recent Hollywood films.

Rubber is not a great film but it is a film that you should watch if you want to understand what film making is about and how simple techniques can be used in order to make a nonsensical film make sense.
