Review of Rubber (2010) by M W — 15 Nov 2012
As a comedy it fails but as a weird experimental movie , I guess it succeeds. One of those movies that goes nowhere. Add on top of that a cheap indie feel, no relatable characters and an already unbelievably vague and absurd premise and you get something so unlike an entertaining movie that it leaves you questioning whether maybe that's because it just isn't one.
If you think you might like that, or if you like when movies push the boundaries of what a movie can be just for the sake of doing so, and not at all in the interest of telling an entertaining story, then by all means go for it.
This film was made for you. I don't outright hate it because I like the way some things were shot, it did hold my attention, some of the music was good, and I can appreciate the creativity as well as the fact that even if it was absurd it was still coherent.
But I do have this lingering "what the fuck did I just waste 80 minutes of my life on?" feeling too.
