Review of Roxanne (1987) by Ross M — 06 Jul 2008
Does anyone remember when a Steve Martin release was something to look forward to? Nearing the end of his home run, Roxanne presents a romantic scenario with enough off the wall twists and discreet chuckle magnets to overcome the odd mawkish flaw here and there.
Loses a star for the rather lame final 10 minutes where Schepisi's discipline finally succumbs to the inevitable Hollywood panderings, still, if it's hearty laughter and convincing romantic dynamism that you're after, Roxanne will provide a well above average fix.
