Review of 'Round Midnight (1986) by Byron B — 30 Mar 2009
Watching Dexter act is almost as mesmerizing as listening to one of his records. This film is an ironically quiet, soulful and devastating look at a the life of a man punished by his inescapable genius.
It wouldn't be fair to say that Round Midnight is a biopic as it only depicts an artists at the end of his rope. But I think it would be accurate to say that Tavernier's film depicts, with exhilarating compassion, the soul of an artist at that ethereal point in which demons and muses run wild inside the moonlit alleys of his armored mind. This film deserves five stars and more.
