Review of Rough Night (2017) by Justin W — 22 Jun 2017
A comedy that doesn't have much comedy and in all reality doesn't know what it wants to be. The film is all over the place and the story is very annoying as are most of the characters. For the first 30 minutes the film is funny, your average comedy. It then takes a nose dive into a different genre and it never really recovers. Some of the actors have been typecast (Jillian Bell) and some of them can do a lot better than this (Johansson). Kate McKinnon is just annoying af. Some of the characters feel really out of place (most of the male cast and Demi Moore). The script's weaknesses make the acting look shitty, even though I know it's not their fault (maybe it is).
I would steer clear of this film. It doesn't know what it wants to be, but whatever it is, it certainly wasn't funny.
