Review of Rosewood (1997) by Barb T — 22 Aug 2007
A very good movie that sometimes is very strong in what it shows. The film details one of the mosthorrific events in American history: the lynching and destruction of an entire town of black people, based on a single white woman's lie.
The acting is wonderful, and the direction, from a young John Singleton, is grand. And scene after scene stuns with its power: where a son tells a crowd to make way so he can show his son a pile of bodies of black people, some babies; and when a train, filled with women and children fleeing the destruction, is stampeded by other black men, as white riders on horses shoot them down, thundering music playing all the while.
A good film.
