Review of Rosewater (2014) by Steve W — 20 Nov 2014

Jon Stewart's debut is pretty solid. It tells the story of Maziar Bahari, who is accused of being a spy when he films a violent protest after an election rigging scandal. The performances are strong in this political drama, but sometimes the movie loses steam near the end and falls prey to comedic moments.

The scenes of Bahari talking with the ghosts of his relatives sort of drag down the film, but the scene with his sister is essential to his fighting back in terms of his state of mind. Well directed and acted, Rosewater is about an important topic that needs more attention.
