Review of Rosetta (1999) by Codie E — 03 Dec 2007
One part Bresson's Mouchette (which in my opinion it improves upon) one part Ken Loach, Rosetta is ultra-realism in every area; from the brilliant hand held camerawork, the long takes and invisibility of the editing and the absense of score to the unflinching and commited performances.
Emilie Dequenne is incredible as Rosetta, a character that is complicated and complex performed with such verve and bravery.
