Review of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1991) by Mat K — 22 Mar 2008
A show about a play where the two main characters donâ??t realise that they are in a play. Hamlet told from the perspective of two nobodies. An excellent stage to screen adaptation. I am sure it helped that Tom Stoppard was the playwright, the screenwriter and the director.
The camera work was standard. The music was funky and I enjoyed the low budget sea battle. The strength of the movie lies in the script. Hilarious and poignant, we watch these two patsies stumble along to their inevitable and pointless death.
But do not worry. They will be back for tomorrowâ??s performance. Mind you, they will die all over again, but theyâ??ll be back again after that for the Sunday matinee.
