Review of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1991) by Candace K — 25 Aug 2008
The use of Pink Floyd's "Seamus" for the opening and ending song was a treat! It starts off rather confusing, in a retelling of Shakespeare's Hamlet, told through the eyes of its lesser characters Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.
It was strange for them to be unsure of themselves, then thrown onto this play within a reality. The dialogue is quick and witty, funny at times. Roth and Oldman worked well together throughout the film.
Unfortunately, I felt a bit lost a times and the pacing of the film could have been better as well as the use of seemingly multiple plots. But it does work making a comedy out of tragedy.
