Review of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead (1991) by Eric M — 20 Jun 2010
Although Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead has a decent amount of mediocre film that at times feels its dragging, there are three very incredible scenes. The coin flip intro is excellent as it questions our expectations of things that truly are independent from each other. The questions match is funny, thrilling, and just plain cool. And the silent play the acting group puts on was enthralling and emotional.
The best part of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead is what the title/play/film is about. It's a line from Hamlet about two characters and the question becomes, what do we know about these men? They have small dialog in a famous play, so are we not to care about them? It's even ambiguous as to who is who. A fun film that asks a lot of questions and requires it's audience to think.
