Review of Rosemary's Baby (1968) by Liz — 13 Mar 2011
When your pregnant what do you feel? (I don't know but i've heard) You feel like all life revolves around whats inside you, what you eat is important because the baby eats it too. (In the movie you can see how Rosemary in particular has a change of appitite ) You will do anything-- even die-- to protect that little person. But in this movie should she? It travels to the corners of the mind, and back again with that question. She will go anywhere, do anything to get away, but will it be enough? Rosemary and her husband Guy just moved into a great new apartment, there's nothing TOO out of the ordinary. They do have some nosey old neighbors living next door, and why does it sound like a chant, maybe a ritual once a week coming through the paper thin walls? Will they know before it's too late? Guy is also a struggling young actor who starts suceeding after the move. Can Rosemary trust anyone? Can she trust that her baby will EVER be safe? FIND OUT!!!
This has some of the best Critic ratings on Flixster I've ever seen.
It was pretty great. The acting, plot, script, character development, timing, delivery, emotion, chemistry, terror, and suspence. It would've been better under Hithcock's supervision but Polanski did a perfectly fine job. The ending was the only disappointment, but everyone else who viewed the movie with me disagreed. It depends on how you like horror movies to be resolved.
It was pretty graphic (sexually) but it is R, so for anyone who has a nude-phobia steer clear.
