Review of Rope (1948) by Rob R — 28 Oct 2009
I wasnâ??t desperately impressed. The worst thing for me was the second murderer (Phil), the one who spent the whole film fretting and not being able to control his tongue. He really pissed me off. A bit like in Very Bad Things where the guy who was in Home Alone keeps freaking out all the time, aaaargh, chill out! I thought the long shot technique/stunt was rather spoilt by the beyond obvious cuts when they had to change the rolls â?? that man has a jacket as dark as a priestâ??s socks.
However I did really like the young girl cocktease and I didnâ??t realise that James Stewart wasnâ??t supposed to be that good in it, I thought he was alright. But I felt that it was an original flick and with the absence of those two niggles (the latter of which I admit is pretty minor) I think I would have thoroughly enjoyed it.
And theyâ??re clearly benders.
