Review of Rope (1948) by Tom R — 02 Jan 2010
Rope isn't as well-known as Hitchcock's other thrillers like Psycho, The Birds, or Vertigo, but it should be. Although it's very talky the first half (it's based on a play), the second half will remind you why Hitch is the master of suspense.
Although Rope is mostly the illusion of a movie done in one-take, it's very clever and flows nicely with the feeling of a play. If I have to be picky about one thing, it's that Jimmy Stewart feels a bit miscast as a prick, but then again, maybe I just like him too much as a nice guy.
