Review of Rope (1948) by Jard M — 24 Nov 2011
Rope is unusual in the fact that the murder happens in the beginning of the film and the rest of the film is a party that happens over an afternoon. It's all in real time as there are no sudden leaps forwards of backwards.
You can clearly see that it used to be a play and Hitchcock has transferred it well to the big screen. The main appeal to Rope are the characters, each played to near perfection by their respective actors.
There is a homosexual subtext there too that is pretty obvious although never actually referred too. Rope could be unlike any other film I have ever watched but it's still a great movie with colorful characters that should keep any Hitchcock fan intrigued.
