Review of Rope (1948) by Ben H — 22 Feb 2012
One of my favourite Hitchcock films. A real experiment for mainstream cinema, and the long takes in the small set make for a claustrophobic viewing experience in which you really feel involved in the action.
Great performances from the underrated John Dall and James Stewart - this film also explores Existential themes and like Gilda this queer movie has a queer subtext. It kind of feels like a perverse farce where Hitchcock plays it for tension rather than laughs.
Nice.
