Review of Rope (1948) by Damjan R — 30 Jun 2012
Technically excellent but as far as the story, I would have love to see the 30-40 minutes that prelude the party, so I can actually care about any of the characters, because the film doesn't encourage empathy for David, only disgust towards Phillip, and that's not enough.
The acting is hammy, and the suspense isn't consistent and the plot doesn't help any of the ideas get across like anything more than the whims of a crazy person (Phillip). All in all, not one of Hitchcock's best, but worth watching anyway.
