Review of Rope (1948) by Patrick M — 11 Mar 2013
One of Alfred Hitchcock's many macabre masterpieces, Rope tends to be somewhat overlooked. It's a morally compelling telling of a "perfect murder" performed by two Nietzschian "supermen.
" It's also a "one-shot movie," which helps add the tension. If there's one knock I have against this movie, it's the performances. James Stewart, top-billed, delivers a solid performance for someone who is not in the movie all that long.
John Dall does a pretty good job as one of the murderers, but Farley Granger is rather bland and the rest of the cast doesn't add anything.
