Review of Rope (1948) by Mike C — 04 Apr 2014
A very interesting idea for a premise as well as a way to shoot the film as it's all done in one take. Hitchcock does a brilliant job of basically shooting a play with the medium of film. It gives him the opportunity to play with the setting and the blocking of characters both of which he does very well.
The film looses out on what could have been a masterpiece in the screenplay. Although the film is well acted (especially considering the whole "done in one take" aspect) the screenplay is a little loose on character motivation and is a little contrived at certain points.
Also although the idea of doing a film in real time with one take is interesting, the film never really takes advantage of the concept.
