Review of Rope (1948) by Shawn E — 27 Aug 2008
Hitchcock's interesting experiment turning a stage play into what is, essentially, a film play. This includes very few cuts (about 10 throughout the whole movie). Unfortunately, the movie moves at a very slow pace.
The two main actors are a bit weak. Once James Stewart shows up, things pick up pace a bit, but, it never quite reached the classic status I was hoping it would live up to. Still, there's no denying Hitchcock's ambition and the truly impressive filmmaking.
..not to mention that fantastic background of the NY backdrop.
