Review of Rope (1948) by Matt K — 17 May 2009
Hitchcock tries something completely different here. His films usually have extremely precise editing to establish his mood and suspense, but this film by nature can't do that. The cinematography has to take the full load of the drama, but naturally it succeeds masterfully.
There are a couple awkwardly staged sequences, obviously playing to the limits of the technology available. But for the most part the film is just as good as most other Hitchcock films. I wish he tried these kinds of "experiments" more often.
