Review of Room 237 (2012) by William C — 29 Jan 2014
I am giving this a 3 because of the interesting comments made by many of the film's interviewees. Since I haven't the time to devote to such intense, frame-by-frame notes (one woman even constructs a layout of the Hotel Overlook based repeated viewings of the action), it is neat to see the many incongruenices that exist, most of which cannot possibly be errors given Kubrick's meticulous behavior and background.
However, the film hurts itself with all the outrageous theories posited by these same people as to the meaning of the movie and the significance of its structure. It's a movie about the Holocaust.
No wait, it's about the faked moon landing. No, no, no: it's about the "genocide" of the native American tribes. Come on, guys, that is a stretch of logic worthy of Eric Van Danieken.
. .when we all know that what the movie is really about is how the JFK assassination was caused by ingrown toenails. See? Everyone can play this game.
