Review of Room 237 (2012) by Trevor R — 29 Apr 2014
"Room 237" is not at all what I was expecting-- hardly a documentary about Kubrick, but one that rather uses his films as a jumping-off point to explore the psyches of the pattern-seekers and conspiracy-theorists obsessed with his work.
It's a strange film, unlike any documentary I've seen, where archive footage is cut together with unedited audio-only interviews. The device doesn't always work, as the same shots grow tiresome after their fourth or fifth use, and there are moments that are much too on-the-nose, but the unfiltered weirdness of it all is certainly intriguing and makes for a worthwhile experience.
