Review of Room 237 (2012) by Leonora P — 27 Jun 2014
The reactions to this film ranging from maddeningly ridiculous to brilliantly eye-opening are all well deserved as this is not your average documentary film, the filmmakers went out on a ledge telling 5 conspiracy theorists' stories about the "secrets" behind Stanley Kubrick's film version of Stephen King's THE SHINING.
The reason I call it Stanley Kubrick's film version of King's THE SHINING is that very little of it mirrors King's book which angered King when it was released and that's just a minuscule detail in this film.
The theories ranging from the film telling the story of how Kubrick wanted to do his own version of SCHINDLER'S LIST as his tribute to the genocide brought on the Jews in the Holocaust to Kubrick confessing his part in the Apollo moon landing "hoax" to his wife and the film's dialogue between Jack and Wendy proving that fact.
No one will ever know Kubrick's reasoning behind his version of THE SHINING, but this documentary at least gives us some food for thought if we ever wondered what that movie was REALLY all about. Believe me, you will after you watch this doc.
