Review of Room 237 (2012) by David T — 31 Aug 2014
This documentary is about a couple of fans and film theorists views and opinions on the Stanley Kubrick film The Shining (1980). Each person presented has a different opinion on the film. Someone says its really about the death of Native Americans.
Another person says its a film that represents the holocaust. Yet another person points out the crazy POV shots and how things just don't add up. Some of the theories are really interesting some are just downright bizarre (Kubrick faked the Moon Landing?).
It's fairly entertaining, but about 40 minutes into the documentary you suddenly realize theres still an hour left. It gets to the point where the credibility of the people talking comes into question.
One guy thinks the government is watching him (snore) another lady at the end basically says she has no idea what the movie is about removing any credibility. While Room 237 is interesting at times it suffers from people rambling on about random things that made me feel like I was in film class again.
Definitely, not for everyone, but worth a look for film buffs.
